Palmer Amaranth

It is a misnomer that Palmer Amaranth can be definitively identified by visual analysis of the seed. There are almost 50 species within the Amaranthus genus. Some of the weedy Amaranthus species have similar seed morphology requiring additional analysis when found in a seed sample during a traditional visual purity analysis.
